If you're a Muse fan, this is it.
It's great on low gain too.
Fantastic distortion pedal! I’ve never tried the original of which this is supposed to be a clone of (human gear animato), but this is a fantastic distortion pedal. It focuses mostly on the mid range, and accentuates the attack when used with a pick. Sounds really good on the six string guitar as well, but it’s really good on bass too. Not artificial or synthetic at all. Breaks up mostly the overtones, not the fundamental frequencies at least not for the low notes, but it does work very well for these too if you blend clean and dirty appropriately. Combine it with a big muff and you have the muse tone!
Originally I bought it with the intent of using it as distortion, but I ended up liking it more as a low-gain overdrive. It can also do a really awesome fuzzy sound. The blend and tone knobs give you enough versatility for the money.
Great distortion for bass!

You know that scene in The Matrix when Neo fails the jump test and faceplants into the asphalt (that's tarmac to us Brits)? Well that instant where he should be street pizza but is instead caught, sucked down, hugged and spat back up by the flexing road...only to slap his noggin painfully right back down onto the now rehardened road...well that's exactly how this pedal feels.
No matter how low you go, no matter how hard you hit it, it just stretches, flexes and holds your tone before throwing it back out there with JUST the right amount of sag...but then slaps it, like a wet-towel flick to the butt, with an edge that is almost Albini in it's brutal honesty.
The DRIVE here-in goes from warm prickly OD/distortion all the way to throaty bark. Like a real BARK. Almost yappy. It has a tangible aggression, even at bassier EQ settings. And that EQ? For 3/4 of the dial it finds and sweeps that prickly edge to the warmth, giving it just enough cut and taking out those flubbier freqs...and then it does the McClusky/Jesus Lizard/Shellac thing and hard-shelves that low, low end whilst carbonizing your upper mids into a metallic razor wire tone. It clangs with the best of them.
But there is refinement and balance to this instrument of bass brutality as the VOLUME pot actually shows restraint! This does not throwing huge amounts of boost at your amp/DI but instead adds a growing warmth and sag like peeing your pants on a cold and frosty day...and sweetening even the harshest of EQ dial-ups as it does so.
Then just adjust BLEND to taste/rig...and you have a TINY, TINY pedal...built like a tank...that gives you a threatening growl of OD...to a snarling bark of distortion...to a glassy gouge of sharp clanging cut. And a plethora of sonic stops in between.
This is pedal creation and circuit bending done right. Smart, sexy, robust and oh so surprising. Pure quality!
