3 Voice Fuzz
Ezhi&aka's "BROMDIHYDROCHLORPHENYLBENZODIAZEPINE" is a fuzz with three separate voices almost as strange as its name. It’s very loud and can produce a lot of broken sounds, don’t be surprised.
Amp fuzz is based on a starved and overdriven amplifier IC and provides high gain open fuzz with dying decay but yet quite a lot of sustain and very little intermediate noise.
Tape fuzz is a wiedro. Being technically a digital effect as the main IC here is a digital delay chip, it’s a low and heavy fuzz with strong gate but also a lot of sustain and droning capabilities. To make things more interesting this one has an auto swell feature with only on-off control on the pedal and a lot of control by the way your play. Also on some guitars turning the volume knob introduces sudden unexpected noise that can be tamed by turning the knob back.
Noise fuzz is a pseudo-ring mod dirt thing with three range modes (from high blips and squeels to humping broken tremolo controlled by your playing) each sensitive to the frequency and amplitude of your signal. It can be noisy, uncontrollable and wild being based on a very old IC used in landline telephones.

The ezhi&aka BROMDIHYDROCHLORPHENYLBENZODIAZEPINE (‘BROM’) has turned out to be the fuzz pedal I’ve been searching for my entire life. The combination of the noise/fuzz mix and noise/fuzz frequency controls lets me dial in that raw, out-of-control feedback-laden sound I’ve always associated with The Jesus & Mary Chain—without having to throw myself on top of my Twin Reverb with my ES-330. Alexey (ezhi&aka) is a truly unique and brilliantly creative builder whose work feels like art as much as gear. I’m also grateful to Sound Shoppe NYC for consistently making rare, remarkable pedals like this accessible and for always treating me right. I’m eagerly awaiting the restock of the Running for 78, and it’s a great feeling knowing I can trust Sound Shoppe to come through once again.
This is the wildest pedal that I've ever owned but very controllable. Each of the three voices has it's own volume control. When I saw that they were in stock I jumped on it. The tape and noise voices react to your playing in a beautiful and musical way that I love. Your dynamics and touch really come into play.
I’m blown away how this pedal enhances the signal path… many combinations and they all sound unique in ways I wasn’t able to hone before.
Ezhi pedals have become somewhat legendary over the years and the Brom fuzz is just another beautifully nasty addition to the roster. There are a plethora of schizoid sounds that you can summon from this thing and its tone is massive. The 4 knobs and two (3 position) switches offer an endless combination of fuzz flavors and textures. Definitely for those who love experimentation and are willing to let the pedal guide your playing.
I'm a big fan of Ezhi & Aka pedals and the Brom fuzz does not disappoint. It can do regular fuzz but it excels at experimental sounds. I like that you can mix the three different fuzzes together. I found that it makes a great noise generator too if you don't plug anything into the input.
