Enter the slow gear sg-1 from boss's vintage, made in Japan catalog. Introduced in 1979, the slow gear is a filter designed to be an automatic volume/swell pedal. The slow gear circuit cuts your signal’s attack to a threshold set by the ‘sensitivity’ knob, the sound then increases in volume at a speed set by the ‘attack’ knob. Yesterday Effects has furthered the function of the slow gear by adding a three position toggle that sets three different modes of attack length. the modes are as follows: standard attack (middle position), longer attack (up position), even longer attack (down position). we have also sourced Toshiba ta7504p ic chips- the same chip the originals use!
A compressor or overdrive can be used before the sg‑1 to even out input signal level for more consistent operation. Additionally, a delay after the sg‑1 can help to create unusual bowed, organ‑like or backwards‑style sounds. This effect has been used by the likes of Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Marty Friedman (Megadeth), and Robbie Robertson (The Band) among others.
